It’s Good to Be King

Water is a way of life for surfers. It’s their playing field. It surrounds and inspires them every day. They are drawn to it. And not to be Captain Obvious or anything, but without water, surfing wouldn’t exist.

Staying hydrated is important for everyone, but especially for athletes. Everyone is different, but whether you’re riding the waves, hitting the court or playing on the field, drinking water can help you stay at the top of your game.

And water is a natural choice for surfers. That’s why Drink Up is stoked to be the exclusive beverage sponsor of the Quiksilver’s 2015 King of the Groms (KOTG) event, an international contest for young male surfers under 18.

For nearly 30 years, KOTG has been a springboard for the greatest surfing stars out there. Just look at last year’s WSL World Champ, Gabriel Medina, who made his name in the 2009 King Of The Groms.

To give as many young surfers as possible the chance to make a name for themselves, Quiksilver is hosting an online competition that lets any young surfer, no matter where he lives on the planet and regardless of experience level, show peers what he can do on a board. To enter, candidates can film a 15-second video segment of their best wave and post it on Instagram @quiksilver using the hashtag #kingofthegroms. Deadline for the first round is June 17.
