Father’s Day Recipes for Every Type of Dad

According to a 2013 Yahoo! poll, 65 percent of dads would rather receive no gift at all for Father’s Day than a tie – who knew?! It also revealed that 87 percent of dads would rather have dinner with the family than receive gifts for a man cave.

So instead of running out to the mall before closing time on June 20, you and your kids might want to take a few minutes now to choose a mouth-watering meal to make for your leading man on his day.

To help you come up with an idea, we looked into what some male celebrities with very different claims to fame said their favorite meal was. Then we found a recipe on our MyPlateRecipes Pinterest page to match. Each one is healthy, delicious and fun for the whole family to make. Which reminds us – for those of you celebrating dads who love to cook – don’t be surprised if the man of honor wants to help out in the kitchen … And possibly steal the show!

1. Funny Dad – He constantly cracks jokes and he can’t get enough comedy. So serve him something to keep that big grin on his face. Legendary entertainer Desi Arnaz loved cooking as much as he loved Lucy, according to their children. And his favorite recipe was arroz con pollo – a Cuban chicken dish. Your Funny Dad might go loco for some Saucy Chicken and Rice too!

2. Sports Dad – No matter what season it is, he’s ready for game day. So serve him something to power up for playing hard or cheering loud. The slugger who has been known by some sportscasters as “the best batter in baseball”– the Detroit Tigers’ Miguel Cabrera – might work in an environment known for peanuts and cracker jacks but he admits to missing the cornmeal-based arepas of his native Venezuela. Your Sports Dad might also crave a cob-kind-of-bite with Grilled Corn with Barbecue Butter!

3. Movie Dad – Whether it’s the latest blockbuster opening in theaters or the DVD he has already seen nine hundred times, he’s always up for a flick. Will Smith, who has starred in a film with his own son, might be a man of Hollywood, but his stomach stays true to his hometown Philadelphia’s fare – the cheesesteak. Your Movie Dad might enjoy a break from standard showtime concessions with Steak and Cheese Sandwiches with Mushrooms!

4. News Dad – He picks up the newspaper first thing in the morning, catches his cable news shows late at night and stays on top of breaking headlines all day. CNN’s Anderson Cooper may travel all over the world to cover every major story but he swears by sticking to a routine diet of what he considers to be the healthiest turkey to-go. Perhaps your News Dad has an appetite ripe for Texas Dry-Rub Slow-Grilled Turkey Breast!

5. Tech Dad – Even if he owns the best devices on the market, he’s always refreshing the browser to see what gadget and apps are coming out next. Bill Gates may be a pioneer of the Digital Age but word has it that his tastebuds prefer old-fashioned burgers – he even draws comparisons to them in his speeches. Your Tech Dad may be similarily wired for a Garden Burger!

6. Science Dad – Be it a part of his career or just one of his hobbies, he is an undying student of every “ology” out there. Albert Einstein, one of history’s greatest geniuses, became a vegetarian in his later years and even has some quotes on record attesting to his beliefs in a plant-based diet. Your Science Dad might fancy a green variation of the American cook-out classic with the Carmelized Onion-Veggie Burger!
