Doug E. Fresh is an artistic icon, a trailblazer, a businessperson and an activist. As Founding Artist of Hip Hop Public Health (HHPH), along with Dr. Olajide Williams, a neurologist from New York Presbyterian/Columbia University Medical Center, Fresh is on a mission to end health illiteracy through music and foster positive health behavior changes. Fresh has recorded health empowerment anthems such as “Let’s Move” and “Everybody” for PHA’s Songs for a Healthier America album. On Sept. 17 at the Edison Ballroom in New York, he’s hosting HHPH’s first annual “Health in Key Gala.”
- If you were stranded on a deserted island, and only one vegetable grew on that island, what vegetable would you want it to be? Broccoli.
- What is your healthiest habit? I drink a lot of water.
- What is your go-to nutritious breakfast? Oatmeal.
- What are the 3 items that are always in your fridge/pantry? Water, almond milk and apples.
- What is your favorite workout? Running.
- Who is your fitness hero? My father.
- How do you take your water – sparkling, flat, over ice? Flat and cool.
- What is your guilty pleasure? Vanilla ice cream.
- What is your healthy eating philosophy? Eat to live. Don’t live to eat.
- What is your go-to nutritious family dinner dish? Salmon, Brussels sprouts and baked sweet potato.
- What is the best health advice you’ve ever received? Stay active because when you give up on your health, you give up on yourself.
