Founder of BOKS (Build Our Kids’ Success) and Director of Social Responsibility at Reebok, Kathleen Tullie began the free before-school physical activity program for kids in 2009 at one school in Natick, Massachusetts, and under her leadership, it has since expanded to more than 1,700 schools worldwide. What Kathleen calls ‘word of mom’ has been the driving force of the BOKS program, empowering parents and teachers across the globe to become trainers in their own communities making an everlasting impact on the healthy future of our kids. And the program is still growing by leaps and bounds.
1. If you were stranded on a deserted island, and only one vegetable grew on that island, what vegetable would you want it to be?
I would say an avocado – although technically it’s a fruit so I will have to default to a beet.
2. What is your healthiest habit?
Early morning and outdoor exercise – I love going for a run in the woods, and if I can get my kids and pup to go with me even better
3. What is your go-to nutritious breakfast?
An egg with spinach, avocado and tomato.
4. What are the 3 items that are always in your fridge/pantry?
Eggs, pink lady apples and sparkling water.
5. What is your favorite workout?
A run in the woods with my Kids and Tuxi (my golden retriever).
6. Who is your fitness hero?
Everyone – it takes dedication and determination to stick to a fitness routine so anyone who makes it part of their daily ritual is my hero.
7. How do you take your water – sparkling, flat, over ice, or another way?
Sparkling no ice.
8. What is your guilty pleasure?
Ben and Jerry’s Chubby Hubby ice cream – which I believe they are discontinuing.
9. What is your healthy eating philosophy?
Everything in moderation.
10. What is your go-to nutritious family dinner dish?
Anything grilled with a big colorful salad. I think that is all we eat during the warm months.
11. What is the best health advice you’ve ever received?
Honor the body God gave you.
